“It is a wise father that knows his own child.” ~William Shakespeare
My dad and I like art. We especially like when fine art and commercial culture collide. The cult of Mona Lisa is one example of how a masterpiece has become so iconic that it spawned a genre: Mona Lisa parody.
For years I’ve been collecting these Mona Lisa spin-offs and passing them along to my dad. Nothing like forcing a collection of crap onto someone else. But, heck, I figured it was more interesting than Old Spice. There were some lean years when I could only find Mona Lisa on cocktail napkins. But now, there’s a flood of great Mona-inspired art. It’s mostly online. So, this year, dad gets a post.
This last series is silly, but I like it:

Very cool, Jim. I’ve never seen that. Now I’m going to have to hound my dad to list all of the art on it since I couldn’t find a list and it’s driving me mad.

I like my dad, but he estranged from the rest of his family so that when I see him or talk to him, it’s like I am talking to a ghost.
I might be getting a new dad soon, though. One who does talk and interact with the rest of my family. Maybe, just for kicks, I’ll estrange myself from the new dad. Nothing like a “my side your side” family divider!
No, just kidding. I don’t estrange myself from anyone. I’m a champion schmoozer.

I thought when you mentioned that the family vacation spot sleeps 10 you were going to say, “and, Julie, we have an extra bed. It’s not much, just a little private bathroom and mini balcony off of the room, but you’re welcome to join us.” Ultimately, that wasn’t where you went with it.

Julie, you are cracking me up!!!! Honestly, it would be more like, “Julie, the house sleeps ten, we have 15 plus Spanky’s friend and her daughter and my neice’s friend and Andy’s friend with his wife and daughter and my mom’s boyfriend (who is my brother’s father) so that leaves the space under the coffee table for room to sleep.
“private bathroom and mini balcony off of the room” – bahahahahahahahah!!!

Everyone gets to go to the beach but me! I did day trips like a regular shoobee last year. It was so sad not to have a outside shower and seafood takeout after a long day of swimming. Instead I got in the car and threw noodles to my neice and nephews for 2 hours.

Where will you be? I’ll be down the shore over the weekend – I’ll come by and see you all… really what beach? Julie – you can come down with me to Wildwood Crest – Dooner will be there on Sunday and Monday and perhaps Tuesday. He’ll have his mpotorcycle and you can use one of his helmets and he’ll drive you around on it. I’m doing a Delaware alcohol run sometime this week.
Please come. The house belongs to my brother, Mark, and sister-in-law, Vicki. She is very mystical – you would like her. She knows how to do reiki.

This sounds like a wicked good time. There had better be photos and/or movies. We’re going to have sea therapy vicariously through you, you know.
