Term of the Day: Proximity Crush

“The mark of a true crush is that you fall in love first and grope for reasons afterward.” ~Shana Alexander

Proxmity Crushes by Robert Meganck

I just heard a new term and thought I’d pass it along. Proximity crush. You can probably assume what it is, but I’ll tell you anyway. It’s when the object of your affection is someone you’re physically close to for whatever reason. That’s the proximity part. The crush part is that s/he is clearly the wrong choice.

Work friends are classic proximity crushes. The high school boys I liked (when I was in high school, naturally) were proximity crushes. Your best friend’s boyfriend’s best friend that you dig? Yep. Proximity crush.

So, now when you have a friend who starts liking that woman from work or the guy who’s hanging the wallpaper, now you can point out that it’s just a proximity crush. Naturally, you’ll have to reveal this to your friends when you’re both drunk since no one wants to hear they’re animals who aren’t in control of their minds and emotions. As always, be careful with this new information. There’s such a thing as being too clever for your own good.
