Riding the homoerotic wave of the beginning of football season, Jackass: Number Two (get it?) will be released on Sept. 22. I didn’t think Knoxville would risk death since he’s getting real roles as an actor. But, he’s loyal – he really loves those guys. And the part of me that thinks Ryan Dunn seems cool is glad. The other part of me is sick of seeing the trailer of their explosive laughter that brings to mind the phrase “had to be there.”
Now, I’m known for my bad taste in movies. I like slapstick. I laugh at a good stunt. I’m a fan of non-traditional expressions of affection. But somehow, the Jackass thing isn’t working for me. There’s too much blatent homophobia for my tastes. It’s just so frat-boyish. Guys who are into guys but pretend they like women just end up seeming like they hate everyone.
I guess I just wish they’d stop pulling each other’s pigtails and just admit it already.

How can you not like Jackass? I’ll tell you…it is modern day Three Stooges. Despite my love of a good fall that takes a full minute down the steps of the Wharton building in full view of a cappella ticket sellers, or an inadvertant punch to the jaw when your hand slips off of a milk bottle while trying to open it, this brand of humor inexplicably turns out to be unfunny. It can’t be categorized in anyway other than a phenomenon where Three Stoogeremia strikes again.

No, I’m dying to. Lisa said it’s great.

I’m going to go with Sarah on this one, even though I don’t like the Three Stooges. I do, however, find Jackass hysterical, and you know my husband doesn’t think I have a sence of humor. How can you not like Jackass?
PS – I’m CRUSHING your head.

I just saw JACKASS NUMBER 2 this afternoon, and while I found much of it amusing I have to agree with you about the homoeroticism of the whole JACKASS thing. Yes, it is undeniably frat-boyish (always a turn off since I hate steakheads), and much like the frat boy mentality it is blatantly homoerotic yet simultaneously homophobic, hiding behind a guise of boys-will-be-boys “guy” humor. The film also featured a number of “gags” that were just plain gratuitous, even for this series, featuring uncalled for closeups of freshly laid human turds and copious regurgitation. Hey, I can take it, but how the hell did this squeak by with an R rating?
The most disturbing thing for me was not the film itself, but the audience composed of scores of teenage skater/stoner boys who hooted and hollered at the screen like a pack of walking testosterone factories. These sorry specimens were the living embodiment of the dumbing-down of society, and the saddest examples among the bunch got into the theater by being brought in by one of their dads, a fifty-something who responded just as meatheadedly as the kids did. It all kind of brought me down, especially the insanely self-destructive/masochistic antics of Steve-O (whom I would not be surprised to hear died from some stupid, attention-getting stunt) whereas the first JACKASS movie made me laugh my ass off. And if you read my blog you know I’m far from a squeamish prude…

Ah, yes, I wait in dread for the day when I get sucked into the (posthumous) E! True Hollywood story about Steve-O.
I’m glad to get the first hand review and hear there’s a whole new troup of homophobics coming up through the ranks. Whew. (Well done, GOP.)

I saw Jackass: Number Two this weekend. It was VERY funny. They had to push the element and surpass whatever thay had previously done and they did just that! It was some of the most gnarly, hilarious and dangerous antics I’ve ever seen from these guys. Thing is this is stuff is made for teenage skater/stoners…nothing wrong with catering to your target audience! But the reality is, the crowd I was in the theater with was split rather evenly down the middle, guys and gals, teens and 20’s, 30’s and on! The Jackass guys do push the whole “homo-erotic” thing ad nauseum, which can be funny but gets VERY old. Needless to say….I laughed HARD during this movie. Maybe that doesn’t say much for my sense of humor!!
Luongo similar to you. I know the difference between a film I enjoyed and a movie I liked. And I liked this movie…a shit ton!!
I know it would be easy to assume that I am biased in this review, but Jackass is a totally different animal than VLB, and waaayyy more funny than VLB could ever be.
PS – Ryan Dunn is pretty cool…and almost died twice in the movie and Knoxville almost certainly could have died! These guys aren’t right!!

Okay, Dooner, I’m chewing on a big grain of salt here. If I went and watched a bunch of people I know kick each other in the balls for lots of money, I’d laugh too. So, you might have a crap sense of humor, but you’re loyal. Dammit, now I’m going to have to watch this flipping movie. Wait a sec, it was on your recommendation that I watched the most disturbing movie of all times – Requiem for a Dream. You do know that both of your Julies were damaged from that?

Jackass 2 looks awesome. I saw the first one with my wife and she almost barfed a few times. Now she refuses to see the second one because it’s too gross.
